BOULDER CREEK

While I was up in Northern Ohio for the long running Shark Scramble, I had a chance to play Boulder Creek in Streetsboro. My Buckeye golf connection Brain booked us a round at this recently opened gem of a course. One of those 'almost as prestigious as us' golf magazines has nominated Boulder Creek for "Best new course in the nation". Although the course had some rough spots on the backside and lacked maturity overall, I can see why they like it.
Boulder Creek is cut through a heavily wooded area that was amazingly accommodating to the designer Joe Salemi. The land was begging to be used for golf. Some holes have mature pines giving Boulder Creek a Carolinas feel. It's quite pleasant to look at as you are challenged by the nearly 7,200 yard course.
They didn't mind spending money either. They have an Island green at 17, a water fall at 7, and numerous white sand traps interrupt bent grass fairways and greens. The course is feature rich to say the least.
Boulder Creek is damn nice design by a guy I've never heard of. Looks like he knew what he was doing to me. If you get a chance to visit I would recommend it. A couple years of maturity and this will be a top ten public course in Ohio. As you can see, it's pretty nice right now!
